Digital rights and responsibilities in education
Digital rights and responsibilities is having the right and freedom to use all types of digital technology while using the technology in an acceptable and appropriate manner. As a user of digital technology, you also have the right to privacy and the freedom of personal expression.
With everything there are rules; therefore values of responsibility, respect, and integrity need to be instilled in schoolers and students when acquiring material or communicating.
There is a lot of cyber bullying through texting and other social media, and it unfortunately at times has terrible consequences where bullying is bad to an extent that students commit suicide just to put an end to the harassment. Students should not only understand that they not acting responsibile and respectful, but unlawful. They need to be aware that this type of behavior is unacceptable and they will be punished or jailed if caught.
Regarding plagiarism, students need to understand that although it is acceptable to use someone's work as a resource, they also need to realize that giving proper credit to that person is acting as a responsible citizen. Plagiarism has been an ongoing issue in schools and colleges. Plagiarism is inappropriate and infringe on the rights of others. Learners need to be taught that when using someone else's work, the owner needs to be to be cited properly.
