Digital Etiquette

 

Digital Code of Conduct for education institutes

 

Computers together with the Internet and institute e-mail facilities are faculties provided for by the education institute for education purposes.  These facilities should be utilised in a responsible manner. Students should have no expectation of privacy and the Institution reserves the right to monitor and inspect all information that may be stored on any electronic device including but not limited to computer hard-drives, CD ROMs, stiffy disks and tape streamers. This shall apply to any computer and any other electronic devices (whether privately owned or belonging to the Institution) that may be brought onto the Institution premises. 

 

The following regulations shall apply to the use of internet and institute facilities.

 

Every student shall:

  • Keep their personal and professional lives separate

  • Stay safe online and not engage with harmful and offensive comments or revenge

  • Demonstrate patience, recognition and recognition of other people’s views, choices and feelings when posting online

  • Display integrity towards the institution, self and the public

  • Be careful about what they say online, take responsibility for what they post online and recognise that online activities have penalties, both online and offline.

  • Display a behaviour that is ethical online just as they would do in front of people

  • Use technology in a respectable and acceptable manner

  • Not break any regulations pertaining to technology use

  • Not use technology in a hurtful, humiliating or any other improper manner

  • Guard themselves and others by reporting any digital abuse of people and institution property

 

Pertaining to the digital hardware and software: -

  • The institute may from time to time specify a list of websites to which users of the computer network may not be permitted to gain access to.

  • No unauthorised equipment including independent dial-up modems or any other computer equipment may be connected to the institute computer network.

  • Students and employees should take the necessary precautions with regards to any virus detection systems that from time to time may be implemented by the IT Manager.

  • The IT team, together with management shall be responsible for monitoring compliance with this policy.

  • Any transgressions of this policy shall be strictly dealt with in terms of the institute’s disciplinary code and procedure. Students may be expelled if found guilty of infringing on any of the requirements contained in this policy.
