Web evaluation & design
Question 2.1
The effectiveness of a website is judged by the user and not the website owner.
www.nytimes.com:
-
Timelines: of the website are reliable as they have latest news updates constantly
-
Authentication: the sources of the stories on the website are primary sources which makes the information more reliable than when the source is secondary.
-
Efficiency: the website is very busy, this makes t hard to find what you are looking for. The home page has got everything in it an it is too much for a scroll, and I endeded-up gettig out of the website, to 'escpe'.
www.news24.com:
-
Efficiency:I found that the website is too busy, there are just no clean lines, too much information gets overwhelming at times, it would be better to keep it simple with minimal information on the landing page.
-
Timelines: the news information takes a little longer to be updated for an example I found that news was one hour behind in terms of updating.
Question 2.2
Below is the structure of the website I would like to use.
The website will be designed with these guidelines in mind:
Simplicity:
It will be very simple and easy to use, I will not be cramming too much into each page as it creates confusion.
Navigation - natural:
The pages will be well-organized with a top-down design so that visitors can easily browse through the different sections on the website.
Consistency is key:
Visitors should not feel like they are visiting a new website each time they open a new page on my site. Consistency among the pages on my site will make navigation a much easier task.
Colors are vital:
When choosing colors, I will use a consistent palette of colors that doesn't clash and make sure there is a strong connection beween the text and the background.
Develop for multiple browsers:
I will make sure to check my website on multiple browsers to make sure everything appears correctly. It is best to catch problems ahead of time instead of relying on complaints from visitors.
Cheking website for errors:
I will double check my website for typos, broken links, and images that do not load correctly.
Content:
A good website has both great design and great content. Therefore, I will make sure all my pages have unique, fresh and original content that makes them worth visiting.
